Redwood Forests vs Rain Forests - What is the Difference?

Have you ever seen a picture of earth from space? -- it looks like a mostly blue ball.  That is because 70% of the earth is covered with water.  The other third is land and just about a third of Earths' land is forested.  Our forests are just a small part of this wondrous earth.

There is breath-taking natural beauty on Earth and each rainforest is a treasure.  Some are considered more awesome than others.  For many, the most awe imspiring forests are the rain forests of South America and the Redwood forests of North America.  They are miles and miles a part but share many characteristics.

Do you enjoy the beauty of nature and all that mother earth has to offer? The redwoods of Northern California can cure anyone and everyone’s desire for and outdoor adventure. Although the rainy Redwoods may not be as well known as the equatorial rain forests, they are just as beautiful and serene, if not more, than the tropical climate and flora and fauna the rainforest offers.
Just as there are very few rain forests in the world, redwood forests only exist in one part of the world, Northern California. These are some characteristics of both rain forests and the redwoods.

Rain Forest Climates
Both the rain forest and the redwoods both receive a fair amount of rainfall; the redwoods usually receiving from 40 to 100 inches, while the rain forest receives between 50 to 260 inches of rainfall. Both the rain forest and the redwoods also have peak rainfall season between November and March.
Rain Forests - The Ambience
Whether you are standing in the middle of the rain forest or the redwood forest, you will find yourself in an oasis of beautiful, tall trees. While redwoods reach up to 370 feet tall, trees in the rain forest generally don’t reach more than 100 feet. Despite the height difference between the trees, both of these forests create a shady, tree-encompassing atmosphere. Both forests are home to many different species of plants and animals and are also need to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Rain Forest Flora and Fauna
While the rain forest has many plants and animals that exist only there, the same can also be said for the redwoods in some ways. The thousands of plants and animals found only in the rain forest, such as the Slender Loris primate, create the exotic atmosphere the rain forest is known for; just as redwood trees do not naturally thrive or exist anywhere else in the world because they are specific to the North Coast climate.
So when you are planning your next vacation and you wish to visit a place where you can explore one of a kind natural beauty and serenity- think of the rainy Redwood s of Northern California.
